About bad fathers and fantasy art

Today a good friend called me. She was crying and asking me to help her finding her dog. I was quite confused but hurried up to meet her. She explained to me, that her father, an alcoholic since he has lost his job, went away with the dog in the evening and the next morning he came home, totally drunk and without the dog. He lost the dog. He might fell asleep somewhere and the dog was taken away or whatever. But instead of going to look for the poor thing, he went to bed. My friend came home in the afternoon and was just told that the dog's away. Of course we didn't find it. We contacted the animal shelters and are hoping that the dog will be found soon.
The dog's very important to my friend of course, and I just can't see how a father can do something like that to his daugther (he does never hurt her in a physical way, but doing something like that is not much better). Well, it may be the alcohol...
